    36. all thumbs 笨手笨脚的
    a: have you tried drawing before?
    a: 你有没有画画过呢?
    b: i'm all thumbs when it comes to drawing.
    b: 我对画画是很笨手笨脚的。
    "all thumbs" (原意:长了全部都是大姆指)和 "clumsy" 都是用来形容笨拙的的样子。
    37. have a finger in the pie 介入某件事
    a: do you think i should tell angela that i saw her boyfriend with another girl?
    a: 你觉得我该不该告诉 angela 我看见她男朋友跟别的女生在一起?
    b: i don't know. sometimes, it's not always a good idea to have your finger in the pie.
    b: 我不知道。有时候, 介入别人的事不一定是好的。
    用 "have a finger in the pie" (原意:把手指伸进派里)来指「介入一件事情」应该是蛮实际, 也很好记的。
    美国人崇尚「自主的想法」, 因此对别人说话时也一般来说比较婉转。他们很少会直接告诉你 「他觉得你应该如何做」, 而习惯用类似分析的方式和你谈话, 但最后的决定是你自己的。
    38. keep up with 赶上某事(人)
    a: did you see annabelle yesterday? i love that dress.
    a: 你昨天有没有看见 annabelle? 我好喜欢那件洋装喔!
    b: i know. she always tries to keep up with the latest trend(s).
    b: 是呀(我知道)。她总是尽量地赶上最新的流行趋势。
    "keep up with" 是赶上的意思, 可用在人或事物上面。
    "trend"是一件事的趋向走势。如果要形容一个人穿着很时髦, 就可以说"she(he) is a trendy dresser."。
    39. plastic 信用卡
    a: oh, no! i forgot to get any cash! i hope this restaurant accepts plastic!
    a: 糟糕了! 我忘了领现金! 希望这家餐厅收信用卡!
    b: don't worry. i've got some cash on me.
    b: 没关系。我身上有点现金。
    美国人常把信用卡戏称为"plastic money"(塑料做的钱), 也可以光说"plastic" 就可以了。
    40. hit the books 念书
    a: hey! the x-files is on. you're missing it.
    a: 嘿! the x-files 在播啰! 你已经在错过了喔!
    b: i know, but i've got to hit the books.
    b: 我知道, 但是我必须念书。
    电视节目正在播出就是用"on"这个字。如"there's nothing on tv right now."就是「现在正在播出的节目都不好看。」的意思。
    "hit" 是一个很好用的字。很多口语里都会用这个字来表示「做」跟其后接的字有关的事, 好比"hit the gym"(去健身房)、"hit the road(上路)等。
