Chinese Internet video users hit 24
as of the end of 2009, internet video users in china have reached 240 million and of those, nearly 40 million only watch videos online, according to a report released by china internet network information center (cnnic) this wednesday.
because internet videos take up less time, they are starting to seriously compete with traditional forms of media, such as television and movies.
around 67 percent of online video users said they have significantly reduced the amount of time spent watching television. nearly 24 percent said they hardly watch tv programs now and almost 58 percent said that they depend on the internet rather than tv.
the data in the report also shows that the number of only video users who rely exclusively on online content accounts for 16.4 percent of all internet video users.
in terms of content, movies and tv series are the most popular, accounting for 77 percent and 70.5 percent, respectively. therefore, hot movies and tv series have become the hottest items for the video suppliers.
the report also shows that the recommendations from search engines and social web sites are the primary means by which videos are publicized. the survey found nearly 72 percent find the videos via search engines and almost 54 percent are referred by recommendations on social web sites. there are nearly 44 percent who simply seek the programs out themselves on known video web sites.
in addition, the data indicates that 79 percent of users are satisfied with the network videos and 28 percent are very satisfied.
however, there is a negative correlation between education level and satisfaction, so the video web sites are being forced to enhance their quality of service as soon as they possibly can.
