fetal（胎儿的）由名词fetus（胎儿）而来。有别于infant（新生婴儿），fetus指尚未出生的胎儿，由此，一般意义上的“弑婴”常用“infanticide（杀死新生婴儿）”来表达。

据悉，因重男轻女而造成的非法“选择性堕胎”行为，在印度、中国等亚洲国家比较严重。
