on the morning of march 26, 2005, 182 chinese government officials at the ministerial levels planted trees by the yongding river in beijing to beautify the capital city for “green olympics”.
the officials are from the various departments of the central government, the national forestation commission, and the capital greening commission. they planted a total of 1,500 trees in the morning.
this was the fourth time that chinese ministers jointly took part in a tree-planting campaign, which was initiated by the national forestation commission. the campaign is aimed to set an example for the chinese people to contribute to “green olympics”.
杨柳吐翠，芳草萌新。26日上午，以“以人为本，共建绿色家园”为主题的共和国部长义务植树活动，在永定河畔的丰台区老庄子乡举行。来自全国绿化委员会、中央各部门、国务院各部委和首都绿化委员会的182位部级领导，在北京市领导的陪同下，兴致勃勃地来到植树区，挥锹铲土，提桶浇水，种下了一棵棵树苗，为首都再添新绿。
自1982年开展全民义务植树运动以来，中央各部门、国务院各部委一手抓庭院绿化，一手抓义务植树，在首都的两个文明建设和绿化美化建设中，一直走在前头。今年是全国绿化委员会和相关单位组织的第4次共和国部长义务植树活动。
