世界上所有人都住高楼大厦吗？of course not. there are many kinds of houses in the world. let's visit some of them.


ice house
冰屋

look at this house. 这是生活在北极地区的爱斯基摩人的冰屋。they live in ice houses only in winter. 用冰修建的房子不是更冷吗？actually (事实上), no. there's no window. cold wind can't come in. 冰块保温效果好。warm air can't go out. 冰屋里比外面暖和多了。how do people build an ice house? first, they make bricks with ice. then they build the house with ice bricks and water. 水很快凝固，使冰砖紧密结合在一起。the house is strong. people can't cook in the ice house. why? 在冰屋里生火做饭，温度会升高。the house will melt.

the ice house looks more beautiful at night. 因为冰是半透明的，里面的光线会透射出来，就好像是房子在发光。

窑洞

在我国陕北地区，人们喜欢住在窑洞里。a cave house is cool in summer and warm in winter. 每个房间只有一面墙有窗户。it's still bright, because the windows are big. people decorate their rooms with pictures and paper-cuts（剪纸）. the rooms look beautiful. 人们睡的是炕。people make a fire under the bed. it's very warm in winter.

the kids are having a class in a cave classroom. 窑洞的屋顶是半圆形的。it makes the room big and strong.

can people build cave houses wherever they want? no. 只有在少雨以及土质坚固的地区才能挖窑洞，否则会倒塌。

hi, i'm a mongolian tent. i live in inner mongolia（内蒙古）. it's very beautiful here. 我主要由架木、毛毡和绳带组成。it's easy to build me. 选择一块平地，把整个框架固定好，然后用毛毡围好，再用毛绳拴绕就可以了。 although i look small, my "stomach" is very big. 而且冬暖夏凉，不怕风吹雨打，还容易搬迁，是游牧民族理想的家。many mongolian people live in my "stomach". they like to sing and dance. they are all happy. every day i can see my friends ?a cows and sheep. do you want to come into my "stomach"?---by dai yifan

house in a rainforest
雨林茅屋

热带雨林的房子不是直接建在地上，而是用木桩撑起来。in a rainforest, it rains a lot. 不仅湿气重，而且容易积水。some animals such as snakes and boars（野猪）are dangerous to people. they might attack people sleeping at night. 使房子高出地面，这些问题就统统解决啦。

这是在柬埔寨某地的一个水上村庄。there are a lot of lakes, so people build their houses on the water. 这样不仅方便捕鱼，还方便往来。people come and go by boat. 集市也在水上吗？yes. people buy and sell things on boats. kids go to school and come home by boat, too.
